‘Lookbook: The Series’ Explores the World of Fashion Blogging
Fashion blogging platform Lookbook.nu recently debuted its first web-based video drama, Lookbook: The Series. A humorous fairy tale-like take on the turbulent world of personal style blogging, the series depicts the journey of young Hannah, who moves to Los Angeles to move with her estranged brother only to run into Mark, a charming but perhaps poorly situated street photographer (he tends to stop people right outside of subway stations, it seems).
Asked about the inspiration behind the story, series co-creator Bernie Su said that his research began at the Magic fashion trade show in Las Vegas. “When I was doing research, I found that the relationship between a blogger and their photographer is really intimate, even if it hasn’t been consummated. So we took that story and presented it in a narrative TV format then juxtaposed the competitiveness. They’re fighting for the same eyeballs. And there’s a seedy manipulation and sabotage between the bloggers. We put Gossip Girl, Cruel Intentions and The Devil Wears Prada in a salad bowl and mixed it.”
And as we can expect of a web series about fashion blogs about fashion brands by a prominent fashion website, brands such as Dolce Vita, Doc Martens, Victoria’s Secret, Coach, Mango and BCBG have all contributed through sponsorship and product placement.
